FAQ
Questions before you install.
Straight answers to the doubts people have before they try PasteTheme, including what it doesn’t do. If yours isn’t here, ask a person on the contact page.
Getting started
Do I need to know how to code?
No. Tell ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini what you want, copy what it writes and paste it onto your page, or pick a ready-made section. Then click any word or picture to change it. Layout not right? Ask your AI for another version and paste again.
Is there a page builder to learn?
No. Nothing to drag, no panels of spacing settings. Each section arrives finished and WordPress itself locks its layout, so you only click the words, pictures and buttons. To change a layout, paste a new version. The old one waits in the page’s revisions.
Will I have to set everything up myself?
No. One click turns a fresh WordPress into a website: Home, About, Services and Contact, a menu, and a contact form that sends to you. Or start from one of three ready-made sites. A Setup screen walks you through the rest, from your look to going live.
Will it work with my host?
Yes, if it runs WordPress 7.1 or newer and PHP 8.0 or newer. There are no other server requirements. Your host still delivers your email and keeps your backups. One limit: a WordPress multisite network isn’t supported in this version.
Do I need both the theme and the plugin?
Use both for the full look. The free plugin does the work: sections, forms, search settings and security. The free theme is the design around it, in light and dark. The plugin also works with other block themes.
Will it slow my site down?
It’s built to stay light: the theme’s one stylesheet, a small one for sections on the pages that have them, a few templates, one font served from your own site, and no page builder underneath. New photos are also saved as lighter files and huge uploads are shrunk. With Pro, slider and chart code loads only on the pages that use it. PasteTheme makes no speed promise and shows no speed score.
Does it work on phones?
Yes. Buttons and menus are sized for thumbs, your forms’ fields don’t make a phone zoom in, and PasteTheme’s ready-made styles stack a section’s columns and cards on a phone by themselves. You can hide any section on phones with one switch.
Safety
Is PasteTheme safe?
It closes the usual doors and keeps your plugin count down, so there are fewer plugins to keep patched. PasteTheme is a plugin too, doing the job of many.
From the start, the free plugin closes the public list of usernames, the built-in file editor and the old remote-access door, and locks out an address after five wrong passwords, with an email to you if you tick it. One button sets WordPress, your plugins and your theme to update on their own, and two-step login is one click away with WordPress’s own plugin. All of it is free, on every site.
What doesn’t PasteTheme do?
It isn’t a firewall, it doesn’t scan for malware and it doesn’t back up your site. Your host or a security service does those. It adds no page cache of its own, and your host delivers your email. Page revisions let you undo a change, but they aren’t a backup.
Can my client break the site?
Not the design. Add them on WordPress’s own Users, Add User screen and pick the Site owner role. The plugin’s Security & people screen shows you how. They can change every word and picture, but they can’t add, move, delete or restyle a section, and they never see the PasteTheme screens. An AI using a key from that login gets the same limits. An administrator can still do anything, so never share an administrator password.
What if my AI writes bad code?
PasteTheme tidies it on the way in. Anything unsafe, like outside scripts, is taken out, and you’re told what went. If it looks wrong, ask for another version and paste again. On the free plugin, a section takes its look from PasteTheme’s ready-made styles, and a style or script your AI adds anyway is left out, with a note. With Pro, the section is kept exactly as your AI wrote it, sliders and all.
Plugins you can skip
How many other plugins will I need?
Fewer. The free plugin builds in the jobs a small site usually adds a plugin for: contact forms, email sending, search settings, security, a file check, lighter pictures, visit counts, a coming-soon page and more. Every one is on the features page. Add WooCommerce if you sell. Backups and a firewall come from elsewhere.
Do I still need a form plugin?
Not for a contact form. The ready-made contact form goes on any page in one click and sends to the address you choose. Forms your AI writes send too, with spam traps and no puzzle for your visitors. On the free plugin, your AI changes a form’s fields for you.
Pro adds a point-and-click form builder: your own fields, radio buttons, dropdowns, file uploads, and questions that appear only when an earlier answer calls for them. It also keeps every message in an inbox on your site and sends each sender an automatic reply.
Will my form emails arrive?
Usually, and you can check. Mail leaves from your own domain, a test button proves it works, and a list shows each recent send and why one failed. You can send through a mailbox you already use, and the Look up the domain button in the site checks tells you if your domain is missing its sending record. Delivery itself is your host’s job.
Do I still need an SEO plugin?
The free plugin covers the basics: a search title, a description and a hide-from-search switch on every page, share previews and a sitemap. Pro adds labels that tell Google and AI assistants what your business is, your address and opening hours, ownership tags, and old links sent to the new page. With Pro, that covers what an SEO plugin does for a normal business website. It doesn’t grade your writing or promise rankings.
What about my shop?
WooCommerce installs in one click from PasteTheme, and your shop, cart and checkout take your colors and fonts. WooCommerce does the selling: products, payments, stock and shipping. With Pro, product pages get an add-to-cart bar that stays on screen, and product grids get a quick look.
Your AI
Which AI can I use?
ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or any AI that writes web pages. Copy the prompt from PasteTheme’s AI screen, or from any empty section, into your AI, then describe the section you want. The prompts and tips are on Build with AI.
Does my AI cost extra?
Not from PasteTheme. It sells no AI: no credits, no meter, no AI plan. Use the account you already have. What your AI app charges is between you and it.
What is MCP, and can I connect my AI to my site?
Yes, in the free plugin. MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that lets AI apps like Claude and ChatGPT use other software, and the free plugin gives your site its own MCP address. Give your AI app that address and its own key, then ask for changes in plain words.
Press Make a key for my AI on the plugin’s AI screen and WordPress opens its own Authorize Application screen. Press Yes there and you come back with the key. The AI screen lists every key with when it was last used, and its Revoke link opens WordPress’s own profile screen to cancel one. Two limits: your site has to be online, and ChatGPT makes changes only from a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace. Step by step on Build with AI; the technical detail is on For developers and agents.
Can my AI break my site?
Not through PasteTheme’s tools. They change words and pictures or swap a whole section, and the old one stays in the page’s revisions. A key made from the AI screen reaches your site’s content only: words, pictures, sections, new pages, forms and PasteTheme’s own switches, never the site-wide colors and fonts, menus, other users, plugins, themes or the mail settings. Safe mode, on for a new site, keeps that key to words and pictures, and a new section for a page that is live is saved as a revision for you to approve. Two honest limits: with Safe mode off, the key can add pages and sections and put pages live, so switch it off only when you want that; and an AI that ignores the rules and rewrites a page directly can still damage it.
Pro, moving and leaving
Free Is the free version really free?
Yes. No card, no sign-up, and it’s yours to keep: a whole website with your pages, a contact form that sends, search settings, security, lighter pictures, visit counts and your AI connected. The free plugin shows no upgrade banners, countdowns, pop-ups or locked buttons. Pro is named in a few plain places, like one card at the end of Setup, and that card goes away once Pro is on.
Pro What does Pro add?
Pro is the upgrade when you’re ready: 21 Pro plugins in one. Forms you build yourself with a spam shield from Cloudflare, every message kept in an inbox, your AI’s own design kept exactly with its sliders running, your own code snippets, old links that keep working, popups and bars, more ready-made sections, and your name on the dashboard. It starts at $49 a year for one site. Free and Pro, side by side, are on the pricing page.
Can I try Pro before I pay?
Yes. Every Pro feature is free to try for 14 days, with no card. If you buy, you still have 14 days to change your mind and get your money back. The plans are on the pricing page.
Can I move my existing site over?
Yes, from any theme. The free Switch screen brings your logo, menu, search titles and form settings with you, turns plain pages into sections, packs up page-builder pages for your AI to rewrite, and lists the plugins you no longer need. A page styled with its own CSS stays as it is. With Pro, the old theme’s CSS and your code snippets come across too. Nothing is removed until you tick it. See how switching works.
What happens if I stop using PasteTheme?
Your words and pictures stay. Every section is ordinary HTML inside its page, so switch the plugin off and they’re still there. A section styled by PasteTheme’s ready-made styles loses most of that styling, because the styles come with the plugin. What stops is what the plugin does while it runs: forms sending, its search titles, the lockouts.
